Hi friend,
I'm thrilled to be sending one of the most exciting emails ever: I'm releasing my debut single on September 1!
I started writing "Afterglow" in the middle of the pandemic, stuck at home with nothing better to do than strum to myself on the guitar.
Luckily, I got some other people to work on it with me – and we ended up making not just one, but five songs. More on that to come!
So much love and adoration and awe go to Will Sullivan, guitarist, cellist, and backup singer; Max Barry, drummer; Isabel Furman, bassist; Ben Green, recording engineer, producer, and mixer; Andy Tyler Clarke, mastering engineer; Paolo Debuque, vocal coach; Meghna Nayak, creative director; and Jack Goodman, music consultant, food runner, and gut checker.
If you want to support me as a DIY artist, the best thing you can do right now is stay subscribed to this email list, follow me on Instagram, and get ready for "Afterglow" to be on all streaming platforms on September 1st. Oh, and tell a friend!
With all the gratitude in my heart,
Mindiya
I'm thrilled to announce that my video performance of "To Love a Hero" feat. the Virginian Quartet is out now. When I decided to enter the 2024 NPR Tiny Desk Contest, there was only one song, and only one version of it, in my mind. I wanted to turn the cello part in "To Love a Hero" into a full string quartet, and I wanted to do it with the Virginian Quartet. Alan Gao, Andrew Kopca, Sydney McKenna, and Rosalind Reischer have been playing together for years in the D.C. area. I've been...
Hi everyone, I hope you've been enjoying Gut Check! If not, please let me know; it's my dream to have a hater. I'm dropping in with a note from my friend Maya Kikuchi, whose band Neko Kā just released their sophomore album Paper Girl. It's an excellent record - I'm fairly certain it'll end up on my Spotify Wrapped - and I had so much fun contributing background vocals to three songs. Hello, fellow Mindiya fans! I feel like the turn of the seasons coincides perfectly with the journey I go...
